After a rough week for tech, the next round of earnings could decide whether the sell-off deepens or calms. Apple, AMD, Palantir and Qualcomm all report in the week of November 2.

Apple (Monday, November 2)

Analysts expect earnings of $1.98 per share, up 7% from a year ago, on revenue of $113.3 billion, up 11%, Tech-Insider reported. The report is also being watched as the first under the company's new leadership arrangement, though outlets differ on how they describe it, so check Apple's own announcements.

AMD (Tuesday, November 3)

AMD reports after Intel's 29% plunge. FXEmpire called it another important test for the semiconductor sector. Investors will look at demand for AI chips and what AMD says about supply.

Palantir and Qualcomm

Palantir is in focus as a read on AI software spending. Qualcomm also reports this week, but sources give different days (Tuesday in one schedule, Wednesday in another), so confirm the date with the company.

Why this week matters

Reuters, via Kitco, described an AI-wary market after a series of setbacks for the AI trade. On CNBC, Jim Cramer warned of more volatility next week as AI spending concerns weigh on tech.

How to read an earnings report

  • Beat or miss: compare earnings per share and revenue with the consensus estimate.
  • Guidance: the company's forecast for next quarter often matters more than last quarter's results. Intel's fall came from guidance, not the quarter itself.
  • Spending: capital spending that rises faster than revenue can worry investors.

What to watch

  • Whether AMD's outlook reassures investors about AI chip demand.
  • Whether Apple's results show strong consumer spending.
  • How the Nasdaq reacts, since it is about 7.8% below its October 6 record.

Share prices can move sharply on results in either direction, and estimates and dates change.
